Biography
Tommy Giling – Bodyweight Sports
About…
In 2013 I had big plans to start a gym. The real confirmation I got after the NC in Amsterdam, where I met the real winners such as Melanie, Jay, Ruben and Rico Mesa.
My partner Dean had a crossfitbox at his internship where we could build a climbing frame. So we started over there with about 2 to 3 group lessons a week, but it grew fast. Before we knew it, it was too small and we started looking for a bigger space. That’s where Bodyweight Sports still is settled.
What makes Calisthenics such a beautiful sport
First of all it gives you infinite challenge, it never stops. You train your body in a functional way, which makes you really stronger. Most of all it’s efficient. At a higher age you will still benefit from it; for instance with lifting heavy things. Because of calisthenics you will function a lot better in your daily life.
Also there’s the ‘club feeling’. Amongst eachother there’s a lot of respect and friendship between the athletes. Beginners are also accepted, everyone is (and feels) welcome.
Why Calisthenics
Because it’s full of challenges and because you’re making progression. Also you get to know your body all throughout. If you want to benefit your body the most, than calisthenics is perfect.
How accessible is Calisthenics
With the right instructions and guiding, it’s really suitable for anyone. No matter what age or level. even people who are overweight. Because of the quick progression, it really stimulates. That’s what makes calisthenics so much fun!
The sport is relatively unknown. Around here we still have to explain what it is exactly a lot of the time. On social media it’s growing at the moment, but it’s not being searched for on the internet a lot.
The complexity of the exercises might scare people. Because of that you might think it’s not suitable for you. Untill you try. I think the hype ie yet to come.
Calisthenics as an Olympic Sport
No, right now definitely not. It does have potential, but at the moment the matches aren’t tight enough yet. There are só many different styles and variations. The sport is constantly moving, new trics are being invented on a daily basis. That’s what makes it difficult to get uniformity.
I stand by it; calisthenics is the ultimate sport. Perfect for your body and also really amazing
