THE SPORT

Calisthenics is a lifestyle sport divided into 3 disciplines:

  1. Strength Endurance
  2. Freestyle
  3. Static holds

STRENGTH ENDURANCE

Increase your resting metabolic rate (RMR). Build up and develop muscular strength and aerobic endurance. You’ll burn a lot of fat as you develop more muscle tissue. Using high-rep exercises provides an effective cardiovascular workout for your heart and lungs.

Muscular strength is the amount of force you can put out with your body weight as resistance or the amount of weight you can lift. 

Muscular endurance is how many times you can repeat that exercise in the full range of motion without getting exhausted. 

All exercises have to be done in the correct form.

FREESTYLE

Calisthenics freestyle is where the person uses their power and momentum to perform dynamic skills and tricks on the bar, as part of a creative performance where each trick is connected together in a consistent flow of combinations.

You can use any style or method that you would like when you practice freestyle. 

STATIC HOLDS

Holding a position for an amount of time without moving. Isometric muscle contraction. This is when a muscle contracts, but no movement is produced.

STREET WORKOUT

IS EXERCISING ENOUGH? SHOULD I DO MORE?

Exercising is a starting point, and each person will need to experiment to know what “enough” means. Elite athletes with specific competition goals might need additional work to improve their skills and training level, while beginners might need extra work to improve their exercise level, while beginners might need to reduce the number of workouts to gain more results. The exact amount of training can be determined with the assistance of a certified coach at TCC. The demand of sport and active living will affect what you can do in each exercise of the day, and you will need to balance your work and rest to allow for recovery. In general, if you exercise every day you will find yourself improving your fitness level.
